A sloooow week

It's gonna be one of those slow weeks...

I monitor my weight throughout the week and so far haven't lost a single bit of weight since Friday. Hopefully my body is just playing up again! It likes to do this from time to time...

I guess as long as I'm around 2lbs down by Friday I'll be happy. It's my gym day off today though so I'll try to eat nice and light!

One thing I'm trying to do with my workouts is start it off with 5k of Interval running/walking on the treadmill - usually what I do is walk at 3mph for 2 mins, and then run at 7mph for 1 minute until I get to 5k then walk for about a 10 minute cool down period. It can burn about 700 calories just there in less than an hour! It's a hell of a good jump start to a workout and I think it'll help shred the fat too.

Anyway, not much else to say today! :)

Thoughts for the weekend and some top tips! ;)

So it's the weekend once more, which means MORE time for burning!

I had the day off the gym yesterday because my legs are currently in AGONY after introducing a squat program into my routine, but today I must get straight back in sometime after lunch :)

I need to burn off some calories but also some frustration thanks to student loan company being dicks!

I think my body is finally reaching the stage where it's starting to take it's fat from my stomach! This was getting me really annoyed initially because it seemed like my fat stores were being used everywhere else EXCEPT my massive gut! Thankfully now, the stomach is coming down! In fact, I went to the opera last night in one of my DADS shirts (Now mine ;))!! Which is a bit unbelievable, it wasn't TOO tight but it certainly wasn't loose either, In fact - I looked pretty fucking awesome!

Foodwise yesterday I think I relaxed my rules a wee bit too much because I was so dam happy with my result haha! I'm a little bit heavier this morning, only by a pound and 3/4 though - so that's likely to be just 'dead' weight from the munching. It'll be gone by Monday :)

I think I want to be realistic and possibly aim for a 2lb loss this Friday...obviously If I get more than that I won't be complaining - but I'm SO close to breaking the 3 and a half stone lost mark, and if I get down to 18st 4 this Friday that'll be me there!

The transformation is astonishing so far - I really can't wait to upload tons of awesome pictures in July for you all to see! ;)

Some of you have asked me about some of the thins I'm doing and I always reply with the same old thing, eat less and move more! I really wish there was more to it than that and I could tell you all the Miracle secret to weight loss - but there really is no secret...

However...

There are a few small changes you can make to your lifestyle that WILL help this a LOT...things that I definitely owe my success to.

You can agree or disagree with any of these points but they are all EASY to do, and they WILL alter your life and your success significantly - I am the living proof.

1. Do not eat late at night - I prefer to not eat anything after 6:30pm at the LATEST If I possibly can manage it.

2. HAVE breakfast! - You here this so often, but it's true. I never used to but now I always have something for breakfast, and I'm not talking about a single slice of toast...Have a bowl of cereal or egg on 2 slices of toast - something that will give you up to perhaps 400 calories. This way you won't snack in the morning and you will have a nice light lunch, leaving you plenty of calories for dinner and the odd snack too!

3. Write down EVERYTHING you consume and EVERY LAST CALORIE that's in it - it sounds hard, it sounds OCD, But seriously...it puts everything in perspective and it makes sure you don't over eat your calorie allowance for the day - if you have a smartphone get the app 'My fitness pal' - I would be LOST without it.

4. Don't have a gym buddy - Now this is a strange one! Usually everyone says the opposite, but I've found going to the gym by myself mean I can do what I want, when I want, go to the gym when I want and leave when I want! Also, if your gym buddy decides they don't want to go one day YOU are likely to bail too because you won't be used to going by yourself - Go it alone, Its your journey :)

5. Weigh yourself every day - Again, something most people are mixed about. I do it because it allows me to track my progress, so if I'm gonna have a bad weigh in day - I know about it in advance instead of getting overly depressed and thinking a whole weeks work was for nothing (this can lead to failure!) - but also, if I have a bad night, when I weigh myself in the morning I will get frustrated at the extra weight it added and work harder in the gym!

6. Drink tons of water - this is a NO brainer, Just do it!

7. Alcohol - reduce the intake VASTLY!! You seriously do NOT understand how many calories are in alcohol, well...maybe you do! But you choose to ignore it. I can pick out hundreds of people on Facebook who will say 'No I better not have that 300 calorie donut, it's got 300 calories in it for fucks sake!!!' But then they will go out at night happily enough and consume probably 1000+ calories in alcohol alone! (With EASE!) I only drink once every month or so, probably even less now. It's empty calories...

8. Ignore fad diets - Seriously, just do it. If you want to lose weight and alter your lifestyle, then going on the Atkins diet, cabbage soup diet, fruit diet or anything like that is not the way forward. Why? It's not sustainable, it doesn't teach you anything about portion control or self control and it's just not healthy either! The MOST successful way is calorie control! Get a BMR calculator and work out your Basal metabolic rate (The amount of calories you burn just being alive) and then reduce this by a good chunk - maybe start with 500 - 1000 calories initially, depending how much you want to lose weight. Combine this with exercise and science states factually you WILL lose weight. Honestly...I have so many people disagree with this but it's ACTUAL FACT. For FIFTEEN WEEKS running I have eaten based ONLY on calorie control only, I still eat chocolate, bacon, sausages, mashed potatoes, plenty of past and bread, steaks, chicken, everything you can imagine....as long as it's in my calories allowance!

9. Exercise must be tough - Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but going for the odd walk now and then isn't enough. OK, it will help you lose weight - but it won't make you fit, and it won't prepare your body for sustainability mode. I go to the gym 5 days a week and work til I'm soaked in sweat and absolutely exhausted. As a result all my muscles are toning up nicely, I feel physically fit, I have BUCKETS of energy and I'm losing weight every single weight. If you just go walking a few times a week your body will get used to this regular and easy activity and the amount of calories it burns up for the walking will gradually reduce.

I can't think of any more right now, but there is bound to be more I'll give away another time!

WEIGH IN DAY NO.15!!!

FRIDAY!

WEIGH IN DAY!

You either love it or you hate it. Problem is you won't know whether you're gonna love it or hate it until you step on those scales. So far, I've only hated it once during the last 14 weeks of my dieting and exercising. Today is another LOVE day! :D

If you read my post yesterday you'd know that last weeks weigh in was a 2lb gain because I'd had a pretty bad week and previous weekend of drinking and letting loose a little bit - a CATALYST for destroying anyones weight loss plans...

But it didn't stop me! I got right back on it, so remember this weight loss today is HUGE...but I'd say about 3lbs of it was extra water/dead weight from my bad week. So don't be alarmed :) I'm still eating right (In fact I'm munching a sausage sandwich right now in celebration!) And working hard in the gym - but not so much as to make myself ill.

ANYWAY

Last week I weight 18st 13 and 3/4 (2lbs up from week 13)

Today....I weigh....

18st 6 and a 1/4!!

That's a loss of 7 and a 1/4 lbs this week!! (FIREWORKS ETC CUE HERE)

SO Close to breaking the 18st barrier and down into the 17's! That'll be scary territory...VERY close to my goal too.

Roll on week 16 weigh in!

Pre weigh-in day update!

Tomorrow's weight loss is going to be an EPIC result!!!

Now...it's gonna be big, but don't be alarmed...because a good chunk of it is dead weight that I put on with my bad week last week. Realistically I'm hoping to be down by 5-6lbs tomorrow, which means I'll have gotten completely right back on track with my goals (infact, still beating them IMMENSELY!)

So once again tomorrow I will make another weigh in day post!! And It's FULL STEAM AHEAD!

So...this 30 day squat challenge for girls thing...

Aye...

I've been hearing a lot about this 30 day squat challenge...seems a good few of my facebook friends have been trying it  - and ultimately failing it. It does seem quite brutal...

It seems like it is aimed for girls, but I know squats in general for everyone male and female are a good form of leg strengthening exercise! Basically, it's a number of squats performed over 30 days (with rest days) gradually increasing each time. There does seem to be a few variations going about...but the one I found went like the chart shown below.

I'm actually quite tempted to give it a try! Just to add it into my workout routine...It could be interesting! And god knows I need my inner thighs to tone and tighten!

So...Let's give it a bash! It can't just be for girls - squatting is squatting!

Mini-update!

Sup followers!

I've been working pretty hard this week with University but I haven't forgotten to keep up the BURN! I went to the gym Saturday, Sunday and Monday...but today I had my usual Tuesday off :) Still went for an ours walk though to burn off a few hundred calories!

Hoping that this Friday's weigh in will be a good on somewhere around the 18st 7 - 18st 8 mark - that will mean I've made up for my bad week pretty well, things are gonna be stressful over the next 5 weeks with a LOT of University commitment needed on my part - but once it's all done it's all over and I can focus all of June on BURNING!

My 19th July 25th Birthday is fast approaching!! I'm pretty excited to get some photos taken of the new me...but I'm hazarding a guess that I won't look drastically different really until maybe end of August/September time

But still...there's really no time limit on this, it just needs to be done!

A great weekend - time for a great week!

This weekend has been VERY productive on all fronts!

I've managed to fit in a lot of keyboard practice for University, finish one of my assignments AND I've been gyming it up and eating well.

My body is finally losing weight again after a wee plateau and I'm HOPING that this Friday I'll be able to say I've smashed through all that extra weight I put on a week ago AND more!!

Hoping for a result of 18 and a half stone this Friday - that would make up for lost time! This morning I was 18st 9 and a 1/4 so I think it's doable if I'm strict with myself and work hard.

This week will be particularly taxing though due to all the Piano work I have to do :( sad times!

Well, must crack on!

Saturday, 20 April 2013

FINALLY the body is back on my side!

So after getting back on track in FULL yesterday and hammering the gym, my body has decided it's time to drop the weight again! I'm finally back on track and looking at a fantastic fantastic weight loss when I weigh myself this friday...

Remember, don't be shocked if it's a HUGE number...because a lot of it will be sort of 'dead weight' that I hadn't really processed when I let loose at the weekend and didn't really get back on track on monday or tuesday....but yes, this will be amazing!! I'm hoping to pretty much abolish the bad results of the last week with it :)

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!

Weigh in day no. 14

It's not good news...

This week has been awful!

Firstly the weekend was taken off for my show down in Glasgow, so I expected to slack off for a day or so then make up for it all this week! But this week has really been testing me...

I've been sick all week! Aches and pains everywhere, fatigue, dizzyness...the pains are especially in my back which impeded me from doing my workouts! (I didn't want to injure it anymore and potentially put myself out for longer!)

Not only that but the Uni workload has been seriously crashing down on me recently adding a lot of stress, that hasn't helped my mood at all...

The food front has been OK, I haven't slipped up majorly. On Monday or Tuesday I think I possibly ate a bit too much calorie wise, but not enough to make a serious impact.

My body seems to be playing tricks too...the weight I put on from a 'treat night' or whatever usually disappears fairly swiftly, but the extra few lbs I put on at the weekend just doesn't seem to be disappearing at all!! In fact, there is no weight loss this week...but in fact a weight gain!

At the end of it all, I'm still not overly down about it. I've done INCREDIBLY well so far, pulling consistently big numbers at my weigh in days and I was bound to have a wee wobble eventually...

Anyway let's get on with it...This weeks weigh in result is...

+ 2 and 3/4 lbs

So I'm almost 3 lbs UP from what I was last week. This is the first time this has happened in the whole 3 months and a bit I've been doing this, and although I'm still ahead of my goals I can't allow this to slow ANYTHING down. As soon as I feel better (Hopefully later today or tomorrow) I will be HAMMERING that gym and thrashing all this gained weight off AND some more...so next weigh in I can come back here and say I lost that extra 2 and a bit lbs AND some more. That's the ideal scenario!

I will keep y'all updated! As usual.

A big setback!

Well this week things are REALLY testing me!!

Firstly I've a ton of work to do for University, secondly today I've developed really painful lower back pain! Like, on the left hand side...its going down part of my leg too so that all points to a bit of sciatica :( Hoping that maybe I've just slept on the nerve a bit funny and trapped it - and hopefully it'll free itself up today/tonight...otherwise, I'm gonna have to admit that my workouts will be rather stinted until then :/

I think I have to accept something and announce it here. This week's weigh in WILL undoubtedly show a GAIN in weight...sadly. This is the first time this has happened so far. I'm expecting to be report a gain of about 2-3lbs thanks to the weekends shenanigans and of course the shaky start to the week I mentioned earlier.

But My determination will not be swayed. The next 2 weeks will be hard, getting through the Uni work, resting the back pain and recovering from it, and getting RIGHT back on track! I'll still be eating healthy and low calorie so hopefully with a bit of luck things will creep down still. I will try and make some time for walking because that at least doesn't seem to aggravate the back pain.

Anyway, keep me motivated people :) leave me some messages on facebook, some comments etc - spur me on. The more pressure I feel the more likely I'll get over this hurdle and smash some more barriers!

Shaky start to the week

So it's a really important week this week

Lots of Uni work to be done AND I'm needing to get rid of all the weight that the weekends shenanigans put on to me - but so far it's been a shaky start!

I got myself down to the gym yesterday and got a good workout so that's the main thing! But yesterday was Essay crunch night, where I spent from around 3pm - midnight writing and finishing my essay. So much so that I forgot to even have dinner! I was starving, so I ended up having my evening meal at midnight - a big NO NO on my fitness plan. It should never happen, full stop. I won't make that mistake again.

All in all, I'm expecting Friday's weigh in to produce either a zero weight loss result OR even worse, possibly a gain of a pound or so...my worst nightmare and would be my first GAIN of the whole weight loss program.

This is bad, because the next 6 weeks are going to be packed with coursework and revision for my exams, and I can't let that distract me from my fitness goals and vice-versa!

Tuesday is my gym day off, simply because it's my longest day at Uni and I just don't have time to go at all! So there's nothing I can do about that. All I can do today is make sure I stick to my food plans and behave myself - Hopefully by the end of this week I can report things to be fully back to normal, regardless of a weight loss, zero, or gain.

More hard work ahead!

Sorry for the lack of an update! It's been a bussssy weekend!!

I've been in Glasgow the whole time playing at the North of the wall festival! It was an absolute blast and a good little break from the diet/exercise - but now it's time to bloody pay for it!!

I'll be back in the gym all week hammering away, but I don't expect to lose much this Friday...if any at all! The weekend will have taken it's toll on me :P

It's quite a nice day today though so hopefully this will inspire some confidence in me!

Weigh in day No:13!

Unlucky for some!

Well today marks 12 weeks since I've started all this banter! and so far I've had some AMAZING weigh loss results, far exceeding my expectations!

But you cant' win them all, and this weeks weight loss goes to show that you can't have a good result EVERY week. Some might actually say this is a good result, but after all my results so far it doesn't feel like it to me. But hey-ho, all I can do is keep going, keep pushing, and batter my way down the ladder. At the end of the day it's still a loss!

Today's weight loss result is...

2lbs!

But I can now officially announce I have lost exactly 3 stone since starting this journey!! So that's a bonus :)

To be honest, if I lose 2lbs a week only from now onwards - I'll still be beating my target by a long way. Infact, I'd reach 16st 11lbs on my Birthday on July 19th, which is a full 10lbs more than I'm aiming for.

I'm toying with having a day off the gym today, I've been going pretty hard on myself recently and my legs are starting to hurt after a fall at badminton. Plus I have a lot of Uni work to do. However, I can't go to the gym tomorrow due to band commitments, and it's likely I won't be going on Sunday either. So I really must go to the gym today...or find some other kind of exercise to do!

Another week down! Let's see if I can beat it next week!

Thursday, 11 April 2013

50th post!

Wheeey it's my 50th blog post!

Can't believe I've kept this thing up, I don't have that many people actually reading it - but at least those who are are obviously reading it for the right reasons :)

It's weigh in day tomorrow! Weigh in day number 13! (Unlucky for some?)

I think this week I'll only be looking at a loss of 2lbs maximum...

This is OK but I think when you're used to pulling bigger numbers its a slight downer, but at the end of the day a loss is a loss and I based all my targets on losing just 2lbs a week anyway! So I'm still faaar ahead of the game and on track for my targets. I'd LIKE to pull a 3lbs loss tomorrow but I do weigh myself everyday to track my progress, and it's looking like I'll be lucky to scrape the 2.

Good news is - tomorrow I can definitely announce yet another milestone that has been reached in all this effort :P

I may post again tonight but if not - see you all for weigh in day tomorrow!

Quick midweek update!

Hey everyone :)

Just a quick update, burned off and disposed of all the excess weight my treat night gave me on Monday night so hopefully this Friday I can post a loss of at least 2 or 3lbs!! We'll just have to see though!

I'm going to Glasgow to play at a festival on Saturday so I'm gonna take all the food I'm gonna need with me! (Pastas, fruit etc) so that I don't eat garbage! I'll be allowing myself to drink though :) I'll be very active that day on stage and setting up etc so it should be fine...not sure about breakfast on Sunday though, he norm is usually weatherspoons! I suppose I can make a good choice though if I try :)

See you all for weigh in on Friday!

Monday, 8 April 2013

Treat night!

Tonight was awesome!

I took my friend out for her birthday to this awesome new place in town called Cosmo - it's basically a buffet style restaurant with Chinese, japanese, indian, italian, all different types of food! Not to mention a chocolate fountain and heaps of nom desserts! I stuck to Chinese mostly...but did sneak a bit of naan bread haha!

Felt nice and full afterwards and well fed! Decent treat night, but now it's over and it's BACK ON TRACK TIME!

I'm splitting my schedule up quite a bit this week because I do have a lot of uni work to do, but this won't stop me fitting in my serious workouts! Hopefully I will shed any excess weight from that wee feast and at least a couple of pounds on top of that to register a weight loss on Friday!

Time to BURN!!

Saturday, 6 April 2013

Rest days!

It's common knowledge it's not a good thing to be going to the gym EVERY day...

We all need rest days, days to recover from pounding the gym, let all the hard work soak in and get ourselves geared up for even more hard work to follow!

My rest days are Tuesdays and Saturdays - so today is a rest day for me!

This doesn't mean I slack off on the diet, but simply that I don't go for a beasting gym session. However, all this addiction to getting fit and healthy has left me in some strange state of mind! I actually don't LIKE this rest day...I want to go out and do something active, but I know that I can't go doing any running or get my weights out and do some strength training - I have to rest! But it's boring...I just don't like it!

Considering going for a walk at some point though, that's rather calm and will burn off some calories at least. We'll see. Really I should rest but it's just like I'm itching to get back into the gym tomorrow!

WEIGH IN DAY NO.12!

It's that time again - Friday!

These weigh in days seem to be coming around faster and faster!

As you all know I've been desperate to get under the 19st mark this week, especially since I'm having myself a good old treat meal on Monday at Cosmo!

Today's weigh in result was very much anticipated by myself, so here goes!

Last week I weighed 19st 3lbs...

Today, I weigh............
...
.....
........
...........

18st 12 and 3/4!!

FINALLY UNDER 19ST!!

4 and a 1/4lbs lost this week!

Seriously feeling like a machine right now!

Not only that, but once I lose another 1 and 3/4lbs I will officially have lost 3 stone altogether so far!

Past the half way point to my final goal and only 1st 5lbs away from 17.5 stone (my initial goal)

To put this in perspective for my international followers, that's now around 42lbs I've lost so far! Or 19kg!

I can't wait to pile drive my weigh down the 18st ladder and into the 17's now! It's gonna mean a lot more work, a lot more sweat and pain and of course lots more yummy low calorie food, but it's gonna be worth it!

Stay tuned for more updated!

Thursday, 4 April 2013

Aahhhh the dreaded 'Night before'

Sooo once again we are faced with another Thursday night...

Weigh in day number 12 will be tomorrow! And this time I'm hoping and crossing my fingers I will have fallen below 19st!

I'm only expecting a 3lb loss this week, which would bring me down to 19st exactly...but if I can squeeze that extra 1/4lb out I'll be ECSTATIC!!

If my scales tomorrow are 19st on the dot, yes I'll be pleased...but not nearly as pleased as I would be if I finally drop that number 19 and will hopefully not see it ever again!

I shall update you in the morning as per usual :)

Wednesday, 3 April 2013

So dam close!

Hello folks!

Just a quick Wednesday morning update, I had my gym day off yesterday as scheduled - gave my legs a gooood well deserved rest!

As you know I'm trying to get under 19st in the next week and I'm actually SO DAM CLOSE!!

This morning when I did a quick weigh-in I was 19st 0 and 3/4 - just 1 pound to go til I'm officially under the 19st barrier! I'm certain I can do this by Friday's weigh in - CERTAIN!

So here goes another day of hard exercise and dieting ;)

OH

And Monday or Tuesday I'm finally getting to try out the awesome COSMO!

An all you can eat multi-national buffet with heaps of different awesome foods. I really will be stuffing my face in celebration! But of course, burning it all off afterwards will be the hard part ;)

Tuesday, 2 April 2013

Another positive day!

Hey everyone!

As you all know I weigh myself every day just to track my progress and make sure I'm on the right track - it also helps me to prepare for what to expect on my actual recorded weigh in day!

I'm currently trying to get below 19st for a festival I'm playing in a week and a half and I'm SO close I can almost taste it!!!!

Today I weighed myself at 19st 1 and a 1/4! So another 1 and a half lbs and I'll be officially UNDER 19st!! This is crazy territory for me. CRAZY! And once that's breached it'll be just another stone and a half til I reach my 17.5 stone First target (Which I didn't even expect to hit until my birthday on July 19th!)

Not only that, but I'm only 4 and a 1/4 lbs away from hitting the 3 stone lost mark.

This is the most awesome thing I've ever done in my life.

Monday, 1 April 2013

Time to mix things up!

So I'm gonna be going to the gym soon today and I'm wondering what sort of different ways I can mix things up a bit...my workouts do vary quite often, but I feel like there must be a different and new way I can mix things up a bit...

One thing I've been meaning to do this WHOLE time is to add in a good bit more core exercises. If I'm honest, I've found it difficult to do situps etc with my massive stomach in the way (sad face) but now it's a wee bit smaller that could be an option.

I'm also thinking of blasting the rowing machine...I think I'm always subconscious that I'm gonna look stupid on it, but that doesn't really stop me doing all the other machines at the gym.

The fact is I really need to start working the core so I can start toning up my abdominal muscles. This will help pull my stomach in as it loses its fat stores.

The thing that I'm a bit apprehensive about is mixing things up in such a way that I find it difficult to hit my calorie burn goals for the session, the way I do things now I can burn a LOT in a session. Usually a 30 minute warm up on the bike, followed by 15 - 20 minutes strength training, 20 minutes on the cross trainer and about half an hour walk/jog/run on the treadmill - this can burn 1000+ calories for someone of my size and with the intensity levels that I'm putting it at...

Today I might try and alter things by perhaps sticking to the bike warmup...but then going straight to the rowing machine and blasting a session on that, see how I do. Then perhaps do my strength training, cross training and finally treadmill.

Still have to have a think about it though, the running on the treadmill REALLY takes a good bit of the effort, so maybe pushing that forward to straight after the bike might be a sound idea. I guess I'll just have to see how I feel at the time!
